BEIJING: China’s logistics sector showed a slight decline in July due to heat waves and floods, yet the logistics prosperity index, as reported by the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing, remains above the threshold indicating the health of the industry.
The index fell to 51 percent for July, slightly down 0.6 percentage points from June, but still in expansion territory.
The total trade volume index, which fell 0.6 percentage point to 51 percent, saw expansion in various sectors including rail, road, air transport, warehousing and postal services.
In particular, the airline industry grew by 1.2 percentage points to 56.3 percent due to an increase in the summer travel season.
Thriving on strong online shopping, the express e-commerce sector saw a smaller decline of 0.7 percentage points to 70.4 percent, but remains in high prosperity.
With indices at 53.2 percent and 51.6 percent respectively, the road and rail sectors have maintained stable performance since the beginning of the year, providing a solid foundation for continued industry stability.
