Beijing: Chinese lawmakers on Tuesday began debating a bill to revise the Cultural Monuments Protection Law.
The bill was submitted to the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress for a second reading.
The revised project envisages strengthening the protection and management of cultural monuments, strengthening the analysis of cultural monument resources and establishing a cultural monument expert group.
It also determines the rules for further exploitation of cultural monuments for their better use.
According to the draft, efforts should be made to further encourage and support public participation in the protection of cultural monuments.
The current Law on the Protection of Cultural Monuments was promulgated in November 1982 and has been amended five times with a comprehensive review in 2002.
