Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is proud to announce the launch of a transformational project aimed at improving the well-being of the people of Islamabad and fostering a culture of sustainability. CDA is taking proactive steps towards creating a healthier environment and spearheading the Capital Development Authority’s (CDA) Bike Lane Project (BLP). As part of this visionary initiative, CDA will oversee the construction of an extensive network of cycle paths of approximately 374 kilometers across various sectors and areas of Islamabad over the next 18 months. With an allocated budget of 2.4 billion rupees, this project represents a significant investment in promoting green transport alternatives and reducing environmental pollution. The Bicycle Lane Project (BLP) of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) will see to the integration of bicycle lanes along highways, including those connected to the Purple Line Metro Bus Project such as Khayaban Iqbal, Sector G-6, G-7, G-8, Green Double Lane, Jinnah Avenue and Red Double Line. These dedicated lanes will not only facilitate commuting, but also promote a healthier lifestyle for citizens. In addition to the construction of bicycle paths, the project will include the establishment of 150 parking spaces strategically located throughout the city. These racks will offer citizens convenient access to affordable bike rental services, with each rack accommodating more than 40 e-bikes. As part of this initiative, petrol bikes will be phased out to further promote sustainability. The official inauguration ceremony of the Bicycle Lane Project (BLP) is scheduled to be held in the coming days and Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif will be the chief guest on the occasion. This event underscores CDA’s commitment to prioritizing the health and well-being of the people of Islamabad while protecting the environment for future generations. In addition, strict measures will be put in place to ensure the safety and security of cyclists, including the installation of proper lighting and enhanced safety protocols along designated lanes.
