Islamabad: British High Commissioner Jane Marriott hosted an Iftar Dinner for leading members of various religious communities across Pakistan at the British High Commission on Thursday 28 March 2024 to celebrate the country’s rich cultural diversity.
More than 80 people from 12 faiths attended the Iftar, including heritage professionals who work to promote cultural and religious diversity in Pakistan.
At the event, religious leaders broke bread together and discussed issues of tolerance, acceptance and inclusion among Pakistan’s multi-religious and multicultural groups. Saveera Prakash, the first Hindu woman to contest in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the 2024 general elections, delivered a speech describing her experience of campaigning and highlighting interfaith harmony in Pakistan.
“Today’s interfaith Iftar was a wonderful reminder of the white on the Pakistani flag.
The chief guest on the occasion HRD Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar said:
I am excited to join the British High Commission’s Interfaith Iftar, which brings together leaders of different faiths, and look forward to working more closely with the UK. “
