In the Indian state of Chhattisgarh, a bank manager deceived a farmer with promises of a ₹1.2 million loan for expanding his poultry business and consumed ₹40,000 worth of indigenous chickens as a bribe.
The farmer needed the loan to grow his poultry business. Over several weeks, the bank manager kept giving him false hope about the loan while consuming a total of ₹40,000 worth of chickens.
The farmer has demanded that the State Bank of India (SBI) management return his money. He has even threatened self-immolation if his demand is not met.
This incident occurred in Masturi, a town in Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur district. The farmer, Roop Chand Manhar, said he had agreed to a 10% commission for the loan. He claims he bought the chickens from someone else and has all the receipts to prove it.
When the bank manager neither facilitated the loan nor repaid the money for the chickens, Roop Chand Manhar approached the area’s Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and filed a complaint.
