In a significant shift following the public revolution on August 5, which led to the overthrow of Sheikh Hasina Wazed’s government, Bangladesh has implemented important changes. The transitional government has begun to undo the policies of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and actions taken by Sheikh Hasina Wazed.
One of the most notable decisions of the interim government has been the removal of the slogan “Joy Bangla,” which was coined by Sheikh Mujib. Following a ruling from the Appellate Division, “Joy Bangla” will no longer be considered the national slogan.
Another revolutionary step taken by the interim government is the removal of Sheikh Mujib’s image from the Bangladeshi currency notes. According to media reports, the new notes being printed will reflect the recent revolution, and these actions signal a move towards ending the politics of hate associated with Sheikh Mujib and his daughter, Sheikh Hasina.
