DHAKA: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) hopes to be able to host the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 to be played in the country from October 3-20.
Recently, a nationwide emergency was declared in the country during a student protest against the reservation law, during which more than 100 people were killed.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) also said it was “carefully” monitoring the situation in the country as the internet was down in many places and international students were leaving Bangladesh in large numbers.
However, BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury is confident that Bangladesh will host the World Cup.
“As of today, all I know is that we are holding the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup as per schedule and we are working accordingly and keeping that in mind,” BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury told Cricbuzz.
BCB women’s wing president Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel, who is also an MP of the ruling party, added that the situation in the country is improving and they are preparing to host the World Cup as per their plan.
“We hope that everything will be fine in the coming days. The Australian and England team have come here before in difficult times when the political situation was quite violent or when there was corona,” said Shafiul.
“The situation is not like this and the condition is improving every day. We hope to host the tournament and we are preparing according to our plan,” he said.
Don’t forget that the 10-team Women’s T20 World Cup in Dhaka and Sylhet has 23 matches scheduled from October 3 to 20.
