The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) ended their more than 30-day sit-in outside Islamabad’s National Press Club (NPC) on Tuesday.
Since December 20, 2023, Baloch protesters have been demonstrating in the federal capital over “enforced disappearances and extra-judicial killings”.
Activist Dr Mahrang Baloch, one of the protest organizers, stated that they are returning to Balochistan from Islamabad.
“We will hold a rally in Balochistan on January 27,” she went on to say.
The situation comes after NPC Islamabad filed a complaint with the Kohsar Police Station on Monday, seeking that the Baloch protesters be removed from the open park in front of the NPC.
The NPC administration stated that the protesters’ sit-in has been ongoing for more than two months, resulting in financial losses since persons from the political and social sectors avoided attending press conferences and other political and social functions at the NPC.
Last month, Islamabad police cracked down on Baloch demonstrators, dismantling their tent near the National Press Club.
The majority of the demonstrators were arrested by police, causing widespread outrage across the country.
The administration first justified the crackdown, claiming it was a necessary precaution to avert a “catastrophe”.
