Pakistan captain Babar Azam will now play under wicket-keeper batsman captain Mohammad Rizwa.
Canada’s Global T20 League franchise Vancouver Knight appointed Rizwa as head coach on Sunday. The Canadian GT20 franchise named the Pakistani opener ‘Mr’ in a social media post.
“Listen, listen! With strong batting skills and a sharp wicket, he is ready to lead our charge to victory. Prepare for battle, knight! The Vancouver Knights announced Rizwa as their captain on Facebook.
Pacers Mohammad Amir, Asif Ali, New Zealand’s Michael Rippon, South Africa’s Dwaine Pretorius, Namibia’s Ruben Trumpelmann and Guyana’s Jeremy Gordon are also part of the Knights.
Season 4 of GT20 Canada will start on July 25th and the final will be held in Canada on August 11th.
The league will feature seven Pakistani cricketers – Babar, Asif, Amir, Rizwan, Iftikhar Ahmed, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Mohammad Nawaz.
Incidentally, Babar, Rizwan, Amir, Iftikhar and Shaheen were also included in the Pakistan squad for the T20 World Cup 2024, which failed miserably and made an early exit.
Canada’s defending GT20 champions are the Montreal Tigers, who beat the Knights in the final to win the 2023 title. Rizwan was one of last year’s knights.
