SYDNEY: Australia on Tuesday confirmed its squad for the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup.
There are no changes to the provisional list, but Jake Fraser-McGurk and Matt Short have been added as reserves.
The likes of Steve Smith, Jason Behrendorff and Tanveer Sangha have all failed in the West Indies-USA event, which starts on June 1.
Mitchell Marsh will captain the team during the mega event.
Australian chief selector George Bailey said Fraser-McGurk and Short had made “compelling cases” for selection.
“During the tournament, the short turnaround between games makes it difficult to get players in at short notice in case of injury,” Bailey said.
“Matt provides the team with a versatile skill set while Jake provides additional batting coverage.
“Both players have exciting talents that can add to the squad if needed.” If not, these experiences will still be valuable in their respective development journeys at the international level.”
Australia will open their World T20 campaign against Oman in Barbados on June 5 before Group B matches against England, Namibia and Scotland.

At the World Cup, a total of 20 qualifying teams were divided into four groups of five, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the Super Eight round.
At this stage, the qualifying teams will again be divided into two groups of four, from which the top two teams will advance to the semi-finals and then the winners will play the final.
