ISLAMABAD: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) spokesperson Taimur Ali on Monday asked the administration in the districts to advise tourists and locals in the sensitive highlands to be aware of weather conditions and take precautionary measures.
Speaking to a private news channel, he said the authority has again issued a warning of another rainy season in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and asked the district administrations of the province to take measures to prevent fatal incidents. He advised the masses to protect themselves from the viral diseases that usually break out in such a season.
“We have taken all possible measures to minimize the scale of the disaster, keeping in mind the severe weather system,” he added. Ali said efforts were underway to reopen roads hit by snow and landslides in the province’s hilly areas, adding that six tourists were rescued after being trapped for several hours in Malam Jabba in the Swat region.
He informed that PDMA is in close association with various departments to deal with emergency situations and facilitate relief to people. According to the Met Office, the westerly weather system prevailing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was likely to persist for the next two days.
