MUZAFFARABAD: The government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir has declared a two-day holiday in Muzaffarabad on May 11 (Saturday) due to the long march called by the social action committee.
“All private and public educational institutions [universities, academies, schools and colleges] will closed from May 10 & 11 to maintain security and law and order,” district governor said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the district has banned gathering of people for more than five days under Section 144 CrPC in Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, Kotli, Bhambir, Poch, Hawli, Sidhonti, Neelum and Jhelum Valley.
AJK Joint Miami Committee also announced a closed strike and wheels on May 11.
The council claimed that several leaders were arrested in various cities in police action.
But IGP Suhail Habib Tajik admitted that the police had arrested several 25-member gangs and revealed that they were “on the payroll” of the Indian intelligence services to disrupt law and order and spread chaos.
AJK Interior Minister Col (former) Waqar Ahmed Noor said the government does not want and has no intention of “confronting” anyone. He said the government is ready to hold a discussion.
A government official was also detained for four hours and a government vehicle was set on fire. Noor claimed that a violent gang took a bag and threw it at a nearby school and that a girl was killed, but “that didn’t happen”.
