Afghanistan created history in the T20 World Cup 2024 on Monday by beating Bangladesh by eight runs to reach their first World Cup semi-final.
Bangladesh were bowled out for 105 in the 18th over at the Arnos Wale Stadium in the West Indies, chasing Afghanistan’s 116 after being reduced to 114 in 19 overs due to rain.
The Afghanistan bowlers came in for the side that joined India as semifinalists from Group 1 and sent Australia home.
Skipper Rashid Khan took 4-23 and Naveen-ul-Haq 4-26 to ensure his side advanced to the next round of the tournament.
Afghanistan will now take on South Africa in the first semi-final on June 27 (Thursday) at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad. Meanwhile, India will take on England in the second semi-final at the Guyana National Stadium.
Earlier, Afghanistan won the toss and were restricted to 115 runs after electing to bat first.
For Bangladesh, Rishad Hussain was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3-26 in four overs. He got the important wickets of Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran and Gulbadin Naib.
Gurbaz was the top scorer for Afghanistan with 43 off 55 balls with the help of three fours and a six.
