HEADINGLEY: Leg-spinner Adil Rashid believes middle-order batsman Harry Brook could become England captain in the future after being announced as the captain of The Hundred’s Northern Superchargers franchise.
Brook, who previously captained the England U19 team, will lead the Superchargers in Tuesday’s game against Southern Brave at Headingley and has been selected as captain.
Rashid is confident that Brook’s captaincy will be something new and could continue in the near future.
“With Brooky having the captaincy it’s something fresh and I’m hopefully looking forward to the future, it’s something I personally believe he can continue,” Rashid said.
“He’ll bring that calmness, that clarity, he’ll obviously bring that world-class skill as a player. It’s an exciting time for him to lead the Superchargers, it’s his first time but he’s got the full support of everyone here.
“Potentially [it could lead to England captaincy]. Everyone starts somewhere.”
Rashid went on to say that Brook is sure to be a “calm” captain and have a positive outlook on things.
“Some captains start at 22 or 23, get into that role and captain more clubs and teams as they get better, with more experience and more confidence. When that happens, naturally they go on and represent England [as captain] ,” added the motorcyclist.
“It’s definitely a captain’s start for him here at the Superchargers and it’s just about getting that experience. I’m sure he’ll be a captain who’s calm but he’s positive and he’s looking at things positively.”
