Mirpur: The family of Waqas Ahmed claims he has been falsely implicated in a drug case due to a land dispute. During a press conference at the Kashmir Press Club Mirpur, his relatives, including cousin Chaudhry Safeed Ahmed and sister Saima Rani, stated that Chaudhry Riyaz and Chaudhry Basharat from Dhouk Bhimber conspired against him.
According to them, Waqas Ahmed was arrested at Islamabad Airport on January 28, 2025, after being handed a suit and half a kilogram of sweets by a man named Naveed. The package allegedly contained 2 grams of hashish and 2 grams of crystal meth. His family insists he is an innocent and respectable man who has never been involved in drugs.
The family has appealed to Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, AJK Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Haq, and AJK Interior Minister Colonel Waqar Noor to intervene and ensure his release. They claim that Naveed has already confessed to Bhimber police that he was used by Basharat and Riyaz to frame Waqas. Basharat has also been arrested and admitted to the crime, and the family demands the immediate arrest of Riyaz as well.
The accused individuals are said to be influential figures who have previously fired shots at people and injured family members over land disputes. The family alleges that their attempts to bring the matter to the media’s attention in Bhimber were suppressed.
Calling for justice, they urge authorities to take strict action against those involved in this conspiracy. They also allege that their opponents have forged official documents and stamps. “We are poor and oppressed people. Our brother has young children who need him. We seek justice, and we believe the oppressors will soon face divine punishment,” they concluded.
