SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: A five-day anti-polio campaign was launched in South Waziristan Lower (SWL) on Monday, with strict security arrangements in place to ensure the safety of polio workers.
Heavy police personnel were deployed on the first day of the campaign, while District Police Officer (DPO) South Waziristan Lower Asif Bahader personally reviewed the law and order situation. According to the DPO, security personnel were stationed at various locations to protect polio workers from any potential threats.
Deputy Commissioner Nasir Khan and Additional Deputy Commissioner Kashmir Khan said that 353 mobile teams had been constituted in 36 union councils to administer polio drops to children under the age of five. The campaign aims to vaccinate 70,000 children across the district.
Officials further said Security arrangements were also intensified in Tehsil Wana, Birmal, Toi Khullah, and Shakai to ensure the smooth execution of the campaign. Deputy Commissioner Nasir Khan, DPO Asif Bahader, and Additional Deputy Commissioner Kashmir Khan appealed to parents to cooperate with polio teams and vaccinate their children.
The nationwide campaign, which runs from February 3 to February 7, 2025, aims to eradicate polio from Pakistan. Parents were urged to welcome polio teams and allow them to administer the vaccine to children under the age of five. “Just two drops can protect children from lifelong disabilities,” officials emphasized. “Let’s work together to build a healthy and polio-free Pakistan.”
