In Pakistan polio eradication is now become the most impossible task because it is spreading in the country. Pakistan is the second state in world along with the destroyed Afghanistan that could not overcome on the same issue.
Yesterday the one week long polio campaign has been started in all over the country. The prime minster of Pakistan Mian Shehbaz Sharif has inaugurated the polio vaccination campaign but unfortunately it’s begun with death of police constable in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Khyber district’s Jamrud area.
Although the government is playing vital role in eradication of polio but the culprits are making hurdles in every campaign by attacking the polio workers and security police, those are mostly lower rank constables or polio worker. Yesterday the social criminals (terrorist) also murdered a police constable while the officer is injured was killed on Monday.
The constable, was reportedly attacked by two individuals on a motorcycle who opened fire on him. The injured officer was immediately shifted to the hospital for medical treatment.
Meanwhile on the same day the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had launched the year’s first nationwide anti-polio campaign, running from February 3 to 9, by administering polio drops to children under.
A few days ago, the World Health Organization (WHO) praised Pakistan for reducing polio cases by over 99% since 1994, reaffirming its commitment to assist the country in completing the final phase of eradication.
Despite significant progress, the disease has seen a resurgence in some of Pakistan’s most volatile regions, and challenges remain in the fight against polio.
The WHO, acknowledging Pakistan’s efforts, emphasized that it would continue to support the country in “running the last mile” to end the crippling disease.
Commenting on last year’s figures, PM Shehbaz lamented that 77 polio cases had been reported in the country, calling it a major challenge and setback in the fight against the disease.
The World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, praising their commitment to Pakistan’s polio eradication efforts.
Last year, Pakistan reported over 70 polio cases, with traces of the virus detected in nearly 90 districts. The first polio case of 2024 was reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Dera Ismail Khan District.
Meanwhile, the premier visited the residence of National Assembly (NA) Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in Lahore on Sunday.
He held a meeting with the speaker, which was also attended by NA Deputy Speaker Ghulam Mustafa Shah and Members of the National Assembly (MNAs) Khurshid Shah and Shazia Marri.
The prime minister extended heartfelt congratulations to Deputy Speaker Ghulam Mustafa Shah on the wedding of his son, offering his best wishes and blessings for the newlyweds.
Other prominent members of the National Assembly were also present at the occasion.
The readers remembered that in recent years the government with help of international donner is taking important steps to for the eradication of polio form the country.
To achieve the above goal firm laws have been passed from the National and provincial assemblies but the problem is that these laws are not been implemented the laws enforcement police and other security forces.
As a result the refusals form parents are increasing day by day, that paved the way for more hurdles in every polio eradication campaign and on the other hand the social evils of the society are attacking freely on the polio eradication staff and the security officials as well, so it is necessity to give not only more security to the polio vaccinators put also ensure security of policeman by improving intelligence system again those culprits who are responsible for the killing of innocent polio workers. In most cases killers escaped easily. Therefor it is hoped that the responsible authorities will take tough actions against the criminals involved in such brutal acts.
