How do you think one can determine whether a couple is happy with each other? In fact, it’s very easy – all you need to do is focus on their faces and see whether they smile together or not.
This claim was revealed in an interesting new study. According to research published in the journal Emotion, the strength and happiness of a couple’s relationship is not only dependent on communication or shared values, but also on the act of smiling.
The study revealed that when couples unconsciously smile at the same time, it indicates satisfaction with their relationship. According to the research, couples who are very happy with each other tend to smile almost simultaneously. In fact, they often smile together, while unhappy couples do not show this behavior.
The study included 61 couples, 30 of whom said they were very satisfied with their relationship, while 31 were seeking expert help to improve their relationships. Their facial expressions were analyzed using the latest facial recognition software.
The researchers observed how much couples smiled and how easily smiles appeared on their faces. The results showed that happy couples often smile together, and their smiles tend to appear at the same time. The study found that when one person smiles in such couples, the other follows within just 0.62 seconds.
According to the researchers, this happens naturally, and most couples are unaware of it because it’s an unconscious behavior. They explained that this subconscious action is beyond the control of the couple but gives an indication of the strength of their bond.
