KHYBER: Land registration in Landi Kotal is inevitable for inclusion of mainstream and durable development; however lack of awareness among the local tribesmen suffers the process.
The views were expressed by the speakers including Tehsil Chairman Shah Khalid, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf local leader, Malik Muhammad Ibrar Afridi and Aftab Shinwari while talking into the awareness session, themed “Land Settlement” held in District, Khyber Press Club, Landi Kotal on Thursday.
They said that although the land registration process had functioned in Landi Kotal but the practice was alien to the tribesmen that suffered the activity.
Ninety percent of disputes in the area erupt due to lack of land record and fair land reforms will resolve the cases, they remarked.
They suggested forming a committee of honest tribal elders that would assist the concerned officials to conduct the settlement process correctly in addition with to publish their process phase wise to restore trust of the locals.
In the course of the land registration not only the tribal would avail their real rights but a basic database would be compiled that would add to the progress of the area, they opined.
After abolishment of Frontier Crime Regulation (FCR) trust deficit, occurred between the tribesmen and the government that must be restored but adopting pro-tribal initiatives, they added and urged the members of civil society to play their due roles to carry out land registration process in the Landi Kotal.
It is to be stated here that the land registration officials were also invited in the forum but they refused to attend it without their high-ups permission.
