Barrister Gohar gives govt 7-day ultimatum for judicial commission
The federal government’s negotiating team has completed a detailed written response to the demands presented by PTI.
According to sources, the reply addresses every point raised by PTI, including the refusal to form a judicial commission for the May 9 events. The government specified that judicial commissions are being established in matters not subject to judicial review, and cases related to May 9 are already being heard in the courts, with some individuals having been sentenced by military courts. The PTI agreed to hold talks with the Prime Minister’s Committee. A closed session is scheduled in the Chamber of Deputies, where the matter will be discussed further. The written reply also demands detailed lists of missing persons and arrested persons from PTI and asks how steps can be taken to release them without proper details. Additionally, PTI’s claims of deaths during the protests require corroborating evidence. The government committee plans to submit a written response to National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq in the coming days. The chairman will decide on the holding of the fourth round of negotiations as soon as he receives the answer. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar has given the government a seven-day ultimatum to form a judicial commission into the May 9 incidents. “We will not hold the fourth meeting with the government’s negotiating team unless there is a judicial commission in the next seven days,” the chairman told PTI. Speaking to the media outside Adiala Jail on Monday, Gohar said PTI was adamant on its earlier demands. He said PTI really wants to continue talks with the government. Speaking on the occasion, the PTI Chairman urged PML-N Senator Irfan Siddiqui not to disturb the political dialogue between the government and the opposition. Senator Irfan Siddiqui had earlier said that back doors and open dialogue cannot go hand in hand. A spokesperson for the government’s negotiating committee for X, formerly Twitter, said he was well aware of the details of the meeting between PTI advocate Gohar and Chief of General Staff Asim Munir. He said both Imran Khan and Aleema Khan described the “backdoor” with the army chief as satisfactory. He urged the PTI to ask its negotiating team to end the dialogue if their talks with the military leadership were satisfactory. The PML-N leader said PTI was desperate to meet the COAS.
