Deputy Commissioner (DC) Yasir Riaz and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Khawar Ali Shaukat visited the Divisional Teaching Hospital, inspecting various departments and reviewing the medical treatments and facilities provided to patients. Medical Superintendent Dr. Aamir Aziz briefed them on the hospital’s facilities, noting that it is the largest hospital in Azad Kashmir, offering modern medical services and specialized training in seven medical disciplines.
To reduce the patient load in the emergency department, separate Outpatient Departments (OPDs) have been arranged from 2 PM to 8 PM, ensuring better patient care. Dedicated seating areas for attendants and facilities like X-rays, ECG, and other tests have also been introduced in the emergency department. Efforts are being made to improve the hospital further with government resources and support from philanthropists.
Dr. Maria Zulfiqar, Deputy Medical Superintendent, Prof. Dr. Zahid H. Qasim, Head of Pathology, and other hospital officials accompanied the delegation during the visit.
DC Yasir Riaz conducted a detailed inspection of the medical laboratory, blood bank, evening OPD, computerized patient registration system, and the emergency unit. He interacted with patients and their attendants to gather feedback on hospital facilities. No complaints were reported during the visit.
The DC and SSP appreciated the hospital administration for its efficient management. They highlighted that healthcare is directly related to saving lives, and those involved in this profession serve humanity while earning immense goodwill.
DC Yasir Riaz emphasized the need to make the Divisional Teaching Hospital Mirpur exemplary, urging doctors, paramedics, nursing staff, and supporting staff to display compassion and professionalism. He noted that a patient’s recovery often begins with kind treatment and empathetic behavior. He encouraged the staff to address shortcomings and resolve legitimate complaints promptly.
SSP Khawar Ali Shaukat assured support for the hospital’s blood bank, announcing that police personnel would actively participate in blood donation drives. He suggested organizing daily blood donation camps to raise awareness about the importance of saving lives through donations.
Furthermore, SSP Khawar Ali pledged to establish a Police Service Center outside the emergency department, offering assistance for police-related matters involving patients. He also stressed enhancing hospital security by monitoring visitors to prevent unnecessary access, allowing only designated attendants as per hospital SOPs.
The visit underscored the commitment to improving healthcare services and ensuring the well-being of patients at the Divisional Teaching Hospital.
