Chakwal: A large number of villagers protested on Wednesday at Tehsil chowk against the dilapidated condition of Amir Pur Mangan Road.
The protesters carrying play cards blocked the Tehsil Chowk against the delayed construction of the Amir Pur Mangan Road.
It’s a major road that connects several villages to city as Dhoke Feroze, Janwal Town, Nurwal, Pinwal, Chak Malook and Amir Pur Mangan.
However, approximately 16 kilometer of distance, the road from Tehsil Chowk to Amir Pur Mangan has been in bad condition for the last 12 years, causing travel and transportation hardships to locals of the area.
The tender for road construction was issued in 2021 by Pakistan Public Works Department, and 19.42 million of funds were released.
But after the regime changed in 2022, the funds for road constructions were frozen by the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM).
The PDM Govt. then released the funds in last month of the tenure.
In July 2024, the Federal Cabinet has approved abolishing of Pakistan Public Works Department (PWD).
The Cabinet directed that to establish Pakistan Infrastructure Development Company to supervise federal development projects while all provincial development projects under supervision of the Federal Government will be handed over to the relevant provincial institutions.
The protesters were shocked when it is revealed in a meeting when told the Deputy Commsioner Madam Qurat-ul-Ain Malik, that the PWD declared this road project as finished and all the funds has already been allocated.
Mustansir Minhas (a protester) told the correspondent that how it is possible that the road construction project is pending on ground basis, but PWD mentioned it as completed.
The protesters have demanded a hig-level investigation into the matter.
