WhatsApp has started testing a groundbreaking feature that allows users to scan documents directly within the app, according to a website tracking its updates.
Currently, access to this feature is limited to select users. Following successful initial testing, it will be rolled out to a broader audience. The feature enables users to scan all types of documents in high quality using WhatsApp and immediately share them with other users.
The scanning process utilizes the mobile camera, and there is speculation that the feature may be integrated into WhatsApp’s native camera. When users click on the option to send documents, they will be presented with a scanning option. Upon selecting it, the device or WhatsApp camera will automatically activate for scanning.
Like other dedicated scanning apps, WhatsApp will allow users to enhance scanned documents before sending them.
Currently in its early testing phase, the feature is expected to be expanded in the next stage and subsequently launched for general users. Reports suggest it might officially roll out in the first quarter of 2025, though no confirmed timeline has been announced yet.
