The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Thursday dismissed reports of the deaths of more than 100 children in the violence-hit Kurram district due to lack of medicine, terming them as “fabricated and baseless”.
KP government spokesperson Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif issued a statement saying that all necessary medicines were being supplied to Kurram every day.
He also urged the masses not to believe fake news.
Barrister Saif further added that all essential commodities were provided to the people of Kurram on priority basis.
It is to be noted that over 130 people died in the recent clashes between the two tribes in Parachinar during which there were reports of over 100 deaths of children. Meanwhile, all major and minor roads of the district are closed due to the tense situation.
Upper Kurram Tehsil Chairman Agha Muzamil Hussain said on Wednesday that citizens were deprived of food and medical treatment due to road closures. He claimed that more than 100 children died in hospitals due to inadequate treatment, while an equal number succumbed to cancer and other diseases.
Meanwhile, local government (LG) officials have warned that they will vacate their offices if the routes in Kurram district are not reopened immediately.
If the road blockades continue, Tehsil Chairman Hussain said he will resign along with other LG representatives in protest.
It has been about two and a half months since the roads, including the Afghan border and the Peshawar-Parachinar road, have not been opened for vehicle movement.
