Bordeaux paste is mixture of copper sulfate and lime used to protect small and large plants from different diseases and weather conditions.
Here methods to prepare the Bordeaux paste and different ways of its usage have been announced.
Five kilograms of lime, five kilograms of copper sulfate and fifty to seventy liters of water are required to prepare a paste for the stems of three hundred large plants or 100 large plants of mangoes, etc.
Dissolve the copper sulfate and lime separately in 25 liters water each. Keep the both solutions soaked overnight and keep them in separate plastic containers. In the morning, slowly add the copper sulfate water to the lime solution and stir continuously with a wooden stick so that a thick blue solution is formed.
For checking the accuracy, clean the rust of a clean iron axe, sickle or any other iron object and dip it in the solution for one minute. If the metal object rusts, add more lime water to the solution and then check. If the rust starts, add more lime until the rust stops. Your Bordeaux paste is ready.
Here is your Bordeaux paste ready to be applied to the stem of the plant up to a height of three feet with the help of a brush etc. so that it is well absorbed into the pores of the stem. You also need to cover the cut parts of thick branches with this paste after pruning.
Plant can be saved from the severity of cold weather and protect from various fungal and bacterial diseases through this paste.
The paste also eliminates insects that hide in the pores of the stem in cold weather. The Bordeaux paste additionally fulfills the deficiency of copper, mandatory for the healthy growth of plants.
The Bordeaux paste must be applied before the onset of extremely cold or extremely hot weather.
