Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has urged the National Assembly to allow the political dust over the May 9 incident to settle and said there is a need for dialogue and accountability.
Barrister Gohar approached the lower house and said, “Enough! We demand a fair resolution of the injustice against us. This council should be a platform for dialogue. We have formed a dialogue committee that should not be mistaken as a sign of weakness,” he said.
He warned that failure to find a solution through dialogue would leave the party with no choice but to return to the streets to protest.
The PTI chief condemned the violence against his supporters and said they were being targeted despite being peaceful. “Our people face violence, they are shot. Anywhere in the world there are unarmed protesters with such ferocity. Look at the recent protests in Brazil and other countries – why did they burn the protesters who entered the government building? “
Addressing an incident outside Parliament, Gohar alleged that the guards of Defense Minister Khawaja Asif Ali Amin Gandapur were responsible for the shooting. “The government’s refusal to admit that direct fire was fired at the protesters is absurd,” he said.
Responding to allegations of inciting ethnic sentiments, Gohar denied allegations of playing the Pashtun card. “The people who are protesting us are not armed. If there is evidence that PTI workers are using weapons, please come forward. This baseless accusation will only punish him,” he said.
The PTI founder needs nothing to prove his popularity. “The support was evident on February 8,” he said.
PTI MNA Sher Afzal Marwat has resigned from the government due to harassment of party workers. He questioned the November 26 violence, saying Pashtuns were being unfairly targeted.
“Why were we shot on November 26? Pashtuns continue to face discrimination. Even though KP CM Ali Amin Gandapur stood in front of Bushra Bibi until the last moment, she was killed, injured and slapped on false charges,” said Marwat.
