The Punjab government has launched a free solar scheme for citizens, providing solar panels of up to 1,100 watts to those consuming 200 units per month.
Under the scheme:
- Consumers using up to 200 units per month will receive a free 1,100-watt solar system.
- Those using 100 units per month will be provided a 550-watt solar system.
- A total of 52,019 households consuming up to 100 units monthly will be given 550-watt solar systems, while 1,100-watt systems are reserved for those consuming up to 200 units.
To apply for this scheme, consumers can submit their applications via the online portal available on the official website or send their details via SMS to 8800. The application process requires the reference number from the electricity bill.
For tenants, a No Objection Certificate (NOC) must be obtained from the property owner. Solar panels will be issued in the name of the property owner.
The free solar panel scheme will allocate systems through a computerized ballot, with 100,000 solar systems distributed annually. To further assist consumers, a helpline will soon be launched to provide guidance and support for accessing the scheme.
