Advisor to Chief Minister on Health, Ihtisham Ali, attended the Universal Children’s Day ceremony organized Khyber Institute of child healthcare hayatabad in collaboration with UNICEF as the Chief Guest. The event was also attended by Dr Inam from UNICEF, Dr Bawar Shah President Pakstan peadiatirc Association, Dr Inayat project director KICH and other relevant officials.
Addressing the audience, Advisor health Ihtisham Ali emphasized the critical issues surrounding child health in Pakistan and outlined the government’s efforts in this regard.
Highlighting Pakistan’s alarming position in newborn mortality, Ihtisham Ali stated, “We are acutely aware that Pakistan ranks first in newborn mortality rates. Activating and restoring primary healthcare systems is crucial to safeguarding maternal and child health.”
He elaborated on the provincial government’s initiatives, adding that specialized hospitals for maternal and child health are being increased. “The Khyber Institute of Child Health and Benazir Children’s Hospital in Mardan will soon be operationalized. I strongly support establishing a separate Board of Governors for these institutions to ensure effective management,” said Ihtisham Ali.
The Advisor revealed that some doctors appointed to the hospitals have been receiving salaries for two years without fulfilling their duties. He took strict action by transferring such individuals and assured, “Only when these hospitals are fully functional will we reinstate postings to ensure proper service delivery.”
Ihtisham Ali reiterated his commitment to merit and transparency, declaring, “I have no personal connections to favor; I will build a team based on merit to achieve tangible results.”
On Universal Children’s Day, the Advisor pledged to ensure equal health rights for all children in the province. He highlighted government priorities, including polio eradication, routine immunization, maternal and child health, and restoration of health infrastructure in remote areas.
The Advisor appealed to parents, urging them to complete their children’s vaccination courses. He also addressed vaccine-hesitant parents, saying, “Do not sacrifice your children’s future for outdated beliefs. Witness the plight of parents whose children are left disabled for life due to preventable diseases.”
The event concluded with a strong commitment to advancing child health and ensuring a healthier future for the next generation.
