The Punjab government has announced that all female students who applied for electric bikes will receive them.
According to the spokesperson of the Transport Department, the Bank of Punjab has approved loans for 20,000 students for purchasing bikes. As per the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, orphaned students will be provided bikes completely free of cost. The number of bikes for students has been increased from 20,000 to 27,200. So far, 7,500 bikes have been distributed among students, and deliveries are being made daily. Over 5,000 petrol bikes have already been delivered.
The Transport Department reported that the distribution of 2,000 electric bikes has also been completed, while work is ongoing to deliver an additional 6,500 electric bikes. All bikes come with two years of insurance and servicing.
There are more than 15,000 students on the waiting list, and they will also be given an opportunity to acquire bikes.
