Timergara: Deputy Commissioner of Lower Dir, Muhammad Arif Khan, along with District Director Agriculture Sajjad Khan and Bakht Alam (District Coordinator of the Census), inaugurated the 7th Digital Agricultural Census 2024 in Timergara.
On this occasion, Bakht Alam briefed about the census, stating that the training for enumerators will be completed in the first phase from November 19 to 24. In the second phase, from December 2 to January 10, 2024, the census will be conducted across 123 blocks in Lower Dir under the supervision of the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics. This census will document agricultural lands, crops, livestock, and agricultural machinery digitally.The Deputy Commissioner highlighted the importance of this census, stating that its purpose is to set targets for agriculture and livestock. The data collected will be used for evidence-based policymaking, making efficient management of human and financial resources crucial.
He emphasized that agriculture plays a significant role in the economy of any country. Farmers often cultivate the same crop simultaneously but abandon it in subsequent years due to market rates. Without proper target-setting, farmers face financial losses.The Deputy Commissioner urged all enumerators to achieve the census goals timely in the national interest, assuring the district administration’s full cooperation. He also encouraged the public to cooperate with enumerators starting December 2, 2024, to ensure accurate documentation of agricultural lands, crops, agricultural machinery, orchards, and livestock in Lower Dir.Later, the Deputy Commissioner inspected a wheat seed stall, where the District Director of Agriculture briefed about agriculture and profitable crops in Lower Dir.
