KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister for Information, Transport, Excise and Taxation Sharjeel Inam Memon on Friday said that the new digital service of Excise and Taxation Department under one facility will make it easier and save people’s time.
He said the newly designed digital system will reduce hassles and bring convenience to people’s fingertips.
The senior minister said digitization will help increase transparency and people will be able to pay vehicle taxes from their homes.
He said the Sindh Excise and Taxation Department has taken a revolutionary step by linking the tax system with One Link.
Sharjeel said that the public will be able to pay taxes anytime safely and reliably within minutes. Talking about check posts, he said that check posts will be set up at entry and exit points of major cities where vehicles will be checked for taxation and action will be taken against tax defaulting vehicles.
In the first phase, a checkpoint would be set up at the toll plaza in Karachi, where the tax records of vehicles would be checked. Vehicles in default would be impounded until the owners pay the tax owed.

Excise and Taxation Minister Muhammad Saleem Rajput, Excise Director General Aurangzeb Akbar Panhwar and other directors attended the meeting.
Sharjeel Inam Memon issued guidelines to facilitate vehicle registration in showrooms. It has also been decided to start the second phase of issuing premium license plates soon.
He said that the second phase of issuing premium number plates would be started soon. At this stage, 50 issues would be released as part of a fundraiser for flood victims.
Sharjeel mentioned that there will be an online fundraiser for issuing premium numbers where around 200 numbers will be available for donors to get.
He said that separate chip cards will be issued to those who have already obtained premium number plates at the first fundraising event held on June 29, 2024. He further said that the chip card will prevent counterfeiting of premium number plates. Owners of premium license plates would be issued a new chip card in the event of a vehicle exchange.
