ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister’s Coordinator for Climate Change and Environment Coordination, Romina Khurshid Alam on Sunday highlighted that efforts have been initiated on Prime Minister’s directives to establish a Mountaineering School in Gilgit-Baltistan with structured training and education facilities specially adapted for Mountaineering and Sherpa training. and sustainable tourism practices in northern Pakistan to promote world-class environmentally friendly mountain climbing, mountaineering and mountain tourism.
While presiding over the second review meeting of Prime Minister’s Committee for Establishment of Mountaineering School in Gilgit-Baltistan held at Ministry of Climate Change and Environment Coordination here, Romina Khurshid Alam said, “Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is very helpful in establishing Mountaineering School. in Gilgit-Baltistan and other mountainous regions of the country.
Establishing such facilities to help equip novice climbers and climbers with the knowledge and confidence to enjoy mountains safely while respecting the local environment, values and culture of mountain communities and fellow climbers would prove to be an important imitator for promoting sustainable and ecological mountaineering. and climbing in the ground, the prime minister’s climate adviser said.
“In close coordination and support with the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan, a plan to establish the first government-run world-class mountaineering school in Skardu is being implemented. Romina Khurshid said scenic Gilgit-Baltistan has long been celebrated for its picturesque towering peaks, including K2, the world’s second highest mountain. The region is rich in natural beauty and cultural heritage and attracts adventurers and explorers from all over the world.
However, the region has a lot of untapped potential to promote mountaineering and climbing, despite the provision of training and facilities for the development of mountaineering skills, she added.
“By equipping local and international participants with the necessary skills and knowledge at the proposed Mountaineering School to be set up in Skardu soon, we aim to foster a new generation of mountaineers and tourism professionals committed to preserving the natural and cultural integrity of Gilgit Baltistan. ” emphasized the Prime Minister’s adviser on climate.
