KHYBER: Flour dealers suspended their businesses in Jamrud in protest against withholding tax here on Saturday.
It is to be stated here that the incumbent government has implemented withholding tax on flour mills that has caused price hiking of the commodity.
The flour sellers in Jamrud Bazaar said that flour mills owners and dealers associations across the country have started agitation against what they said was an unjustified tax.
With imposition of withholding tax will directly affect the poor segments of the society, they added and said as integration to the community, they also sealed their trade centers in protest.
They went on that the imposition of sternly tax on flour mills will raise price hiking of the edible item that will be like to deprive the poor of three times bread.
In other countries food items were exempted from taxes to ensure provision of edibles to the poor ones while in Pakistan adverse tax policies were introduced to further squeeze its citizens, they opined.
They threatened that till withdrawal of the withholding tax they would never give up protest against it.
