England manager Gareth Southgate has admitted his side are yet to peak despite a lack of promising results so far in their Euro 2024 opener.
England, who are in Group C, were held to a 1-1 draw by Denmark on Thursday. Before that, they managed to beat Serbia 1-0.
The 53-year-old admits England is not very attractive.
Harry Kane’s strike in the first half was canceled out by Morten Hjulmand’s long-range strike and England’s attack was kept in check.
“Obviously, we are frustrated with the level of both performances, so we have to analyze deeply and find some solutions to solve the problems that arise,” Southgate told the press. conference on Friday.
“We know that the level can be higher. Perhaps the most important thing is that we accept the environment and the expectations around us.
“Ultimately, it’s my responsibility. I’m the manager and I have to guide this team in the best way to achieve something extraordinary,” he said, emphasizing his role in improving the team’s performance.
Southgate pointed to the lack of key players, particularly left-back Luke Shaw, as the team’s imbalance. Kieran praised Trippier’s contribution and said: “Tripps has done a great job for the team. His spirit, his organization, his will have won us the last two games.”
Southgate refused to blame external factors for his failure despite problems in Frankfurt, where he had to replace Kyle Walker early on.
England currently lead Group C with four points and are set to progress to the knockout stages. After that, Slovenia will host Denmark and Serbia.
