LAHORE: Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari has said that the defamation law will not affect working journalists.
“Only social media influencers are upset about this legislation, which is about defaming others and making dollars,” said the provincial information minister.
He was addressing the media outside the Punjab Assembly on Thursday.
“We have provided a huge amount of $1 billion for the health of the journalism community,” Azma said.
He said that protest is the right of journalists, that the law of defamation has been challenged by the court, so we have to wait for the decision.
Commenting on the provincial budget presented in the Punjab Assembly on Thursday, he said that 77 new schemes will be implemented in this budget.
He added that the OPD of the new cancer hospital would be operational within a year.
“The government is empowered to control inflation,” he said.
