RAWALPINDI: For the first time, a woman officer from the minority Christian community has been promoted to the rank of brigadier in the Pakistan Army.
Helen Mary Roberts, who served in the Army Medical Corps, became the first star officer from a minority community in Pakistan’s history.
Brigadier Roberts is an officer appointed by the Board of Selection to the rank of brigadier and full colonel.
Last year during Christmas celebrations at Christ Church in Rawalpindi, Army Chief General Asim Munir praised the role of the Christian community in the development of Pakistan.
The army chief praised the community’s contribution to the development of higher education, healthcare and philanthropy, as well as national defense.
COAS Munir expressed his deep respect for the Christian community and stressed the importance of fostering interfaith harmony to achieve the Quaid’s vision of a united and progressive Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz congratulated Sherif Roberts for being promoted to the rank of Brigadier in the Army Medical Corps.
Brigadier Roberts, a member of Pakistan’s Christian community, has made history by becoming the first woman from a minority to receive this prestigious title.
He said that the Prime Minister, including the entire nation, has shown him kindness. She praised Brigadier Roberts for her hard work and dedication and said that she proved that Pakistani women can achieve success in any field and she came second.
The Brigadier said Roberts’ dedication to service, humanity and work will be a beacon of inspiration for generations of young women to come.
