Islamabad: Pakistan and Azerbaijan on Thursday reaffirmed their commitment to develop cooperation in many sectors, including trade, investment, energy and communication, aiming to fully utilize the potential of their friendly relations.
Bilateral relations and cooperation, as well as international issues, were discussed in a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister [and Foreign Minister] Ishak Dar and Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov.
In a joint press conference, Ishaq Dar confirmed the intention of the two countries to strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, communication, energy and defense sectors.
Focusing on the role of the Joint Working Group on energy issues, he highlighted efforts to promote bilateral investment, especially in the energy sector.
In addition to strengthening cooperation in renewable energy, Dar also mentioned the mutual desire to develop parliamentary exchange with culture, business and academia.
Azerbaijan supports Pakistan in hosting the COP29 meeting.
The talks also covered the situation in Gaza, with both sides demanding an end to Israeli hostilities and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Quds Al Sherif as its capital.
Dar thanked Azerbaijan for its continued support for the Kashmir issue and reiterated Pakistan’s support for Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said that the meeting aims to strengthen cooperation and strategic cooperation to develop bilateral relations.
Bayramov invited Pakistan’s business community to explore opportunities in Azerbaijan and highlighted existing connectivity through direct flights and tourism.
He appreciated Pakistan’s position on the Karabakh conflict and reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s principled position on the Kashmir issue.
Both ministers highlighted issues related to climate change, with Azerbaijan saying it would support developing countries such as Pakistan in their adaptation efforts.
He highlighted the challenges Pakistan was facing after the Dar floods and highlighted the country’s strategic location for regional connectivity.
The leaders concluded their remarks with a strong commitment to further strengthen bilateral strategic ties and expand cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, energy, defence, education, climate change and regional connectivity.
