Saudi Arabia held its first fashion show on Friday at a poolside show designed by Moroccan designer Asmasmina Kanzal.
The show featured mostly red, navy and blue one piece suits.
“When we got here, we realized that the underwater fashion show was a historic moment in Saudi Arabia because it was the first time such an event was held,” Qanzal told AFP.
Red Sea Fashion Week is presented at the St Regis Red Sea Resort, part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 social and economic reform program.
The hospital is part of the Global Red Sea, one of the mega projects overseen by Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Syrian fashion influencer Shuq Mohammed said he was not surprised given Saudi Arabia’s efforts to globalize and expand its tourism and fashion industries, as he attended a historic fashion show on Friday.
According to a report released last year by Saudi Arabia’s official fashion commission, the fashion industry employs 230,000 people and generates $12.5 billion in revenue by 2022, or 1.4 percent of the country’s gross domestic product.
French influencer Raphael Simacourbe, who attended the fashion show last Friday, said there was no danger to his eyes, but it was a big success in Saudi Arabia.
