LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has said that environmental clearance (NOC) is mandatory for the student bike scheme.
This decision was delivered by Judge Shaheed Karim in a hearing related to smoke damage filed by Haroon Farooq and others.
During the proceedings, he highlighted the criminality of carrying out projects without the necessary environmental approvals, particularly citing the Punjab government’s initiative to distribute bicycles to students.
Justice Shaheed Karim said that the environmental pollution crisis is serious and cannot be ignored and immediate action is required.
The court ordered the public park to operate, citing the need for its operation and safety. It was also decided that a fine should be imposed for negligence in this case.
The LHC ordered to submit a detailed report on the working conditions of seven sports complexes under the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) and a report on deforestation.
As a result, the Punjab government was directed to submit a comprehensive report on the status of the student racing scheme on May 27.
