Gambia: The Contact Group of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Jammu and Kashmir met on May 5, 2024, in Banjul, Gambia on the sidelines of the 15th Islamic Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. The meeting reviewed the political and security environment in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). He also noted the dire human rights situation in the occupied territories.
The meeting was chaired by Yousuf Al-Dobey, Assistant Secretary General (Political Affairs) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and Special Representative of the Secretary General of Jammu and Kashmir, and the member countries of the Contact Group, namely Pakistan, Saudi. Arab, Turkish, Niger and Azerbaijan. It was attended by a delegation of real representatives of the people of Kashmir and senior officials from the Permanent Human Rights Committee of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
The meeting was chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar. He explained to the Contact Group about his work in India to make Kashmiris a vulnerable community in their own country. He said in the meeting that India has continuously denied the Kashmiri people their basic rights and freedoms. He also said that Indian authorities are creating an environment of fear and intimidation at the ICC to prevent dissent. He urged the international community to be aware of the Indian leader’s provocative statements and baseless demands regarding Azad Jammu and Kashmir, which posed a serious threat to the region’s leaders. He also said that India should release all political prisoners, take action against illegal political parties, stop illegal and unilateral actions on August 5, 2019 and take further steps aimed at changing demographics and political engineering and UN Security Council resolutions.
Delegates from various member states emphasized the importance of the Jammu-Kashmir issue on the agenda of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and expressed their support for the legitimate struggle of the Kashmiri people to realize their inalienable right to self-determination under the UN Security Council.
