With more than 1,000 horsepower on tap and blisteringly fast charging speeds, Porsche Cayenne EV is here to impress.
Porsche Cayenne Electric Launches With Advanced Specs
The first all-electric Porsche Cayenne arrives with standard all-wheel drive, air suspension, and 400 kW DC fast charging. Two models will be available initially, both offering close to 400 miles of range on the WLTP cycle. While its design may divide opinion, the Cayenne Electric is Porsche’s most advanced EV yet, built to compete head-to-head with rivals from the United States and China.
Dual-Motor Setup and Regenerative Braking
Both versions feature dual-motor all-wheel drive, air suspension, and a 108 kWh usable battery pack capable of charging at a peak 400 kW. Regenerative braking allows the motors to send up to 600 kW back to the battery, a significant leap over the Taycan’s 400 kW.
Charging Speed and Range Highlights
Wireless charging via a floor-mounted pad delivering up to 11 kW is optional. Porsche claims the Cayenne can add 201 miles of range in just 10 minutes, or charge from 10% to 80% in under 16 minutes with a sufficiently powerful DC fast charger. To achieve this, the charger must deliver at least 850 volts and 520 amps. For comparison, Lucid’s Gravity SUV also peaks at 400 kW but uses a larger 123 kWh battery, enabling an EPA-rated 450-mile range.
Porsche Cayenne Electric Range Estimates
Both Porsche Cayenne models deliver impressive WLTP range figures, hovering near the 400-mile mark on a full charge.
Entry-Level Cayenne Electric Performance
The base Cayenne Electric produces 402 hp (300 kW) in normal driving, rising to 435 hp (325 kW) with Launch Control. Torque is rated at 618 lb-ft (835 Nm), enabling a 0–62 mph sprint in 4.8 seconds and a top speed of 143 mph (230 kph). WLTP range is estimated at 399 miles (642 km), with EPA figures expected around 340 miles (547 km).
Cayenne Turbo Electric: Powerhouse Performance
The Cayenne Turbo Electric, despite its name, has no turbocharger. Instead, its dual-motor system delivers up to 1,140 hp and 1,106 lb-ft of torque with Launch Control, propelling the SUV to 62 mph in just 2.5 seconds and a top speed of 161 mph (260 kph).
Push-to-Pass and Range for Turbo Model
In everyday driving, output is capped at 845 hp (630 kW), but a Push-to-Pass function adds 174 hp (130 kW) for 10 seconds. WLTP range is 387 miles (623 km), with EPA estimates likely around 330 miles (531 km).
Handling and Ride Features
Rear-wheel steering is optional across both trims. The Turbo can also be equipped with ceramic composite brakes and Porsche’s Active Ride system, which adjusts each corner independently for sharper handling.
Design and Aerodynamics
The Cayenne’s design remains polarizing, but the EV version introduces aerodynamic refinements: frameless windows, active air flaps, an adaptive roof spoiler, and rear aeroblades on the Turbo. Porsche says these features improve efficiency, particularly at higher speeds.
Cargo and Towing Capacity
The Cayenne EV can tow up to 7,716 pounds (3,500 kg). Cargo space measures 56 cu ft (1,588 l) with seats folded, 27.8 cu ft (781 l) with seats upright, plus 3.1 cu ft (90 l) in the front trunk. Figures may vary slightly for U.S. models.
Interior Tech and Display Options
Inside, a curved OLED panel dominates the center console, complemented by a 14.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Options include a 14.9-inch passenger display and a head-up display with augmented reality covering an 87-inch field of view.
Traditional Controls Remain
Despite the tech-heavy cabin, Porsche retains physical controls for essentials like climate and audio volume.
Porsche Cayenne Electric Pricing and Availability
In Germany, the Cayenne Electric starts at $122,400 (€105,200) for the base model and $192,550 (€165,500) for the Turbo. It will be sold alongside gasoline and plug-in hybrid Cayennes, which ride on a different platform. U.S. pricing and availability are yet to be announced.
Market Reception Still Uncertain
Whether buyers will embrace Porsche’s boldest EV SUV remains to be seen, but the Cayenne Electric sets a new benchmark in performance and charging speed.
