Rawalpindi — General Sir Charles Roland Vincent Walker, Chief of the General Staff of the United Kingdom Army, met with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi today to discuss regional security and deepen bilateral defence cooperation.

During the high-level meeting, both military leaders exchanged views on matters of mutual interest, with a particular focus on enhancing strategic collaboration to promote peace and stability across the region. The UK CGS praised the Pakistan Army’s contributions in the fight against terrorism and acknowledged its role in fostering regional harmony.

Earlier in the day, General Walker laid a floral wreath at the Yadgar-e-Shuhada, paying tribute to Pakistan’s fallen soldiers. He was also presented with a guard of honour by a smartly turned-out contingent of the Pakistan Army.

The visit underscores growing defence ties between Pakistan and the United Kingdom, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to continued cooperation in the face of evolving global security challenges.

Strengthening Military Diplomacy Across the Middle East

General Walker’s visit comes on the heels of Field Marshal Asim Munir’s landmark diplomatic tour of Egypt, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia, where he held high-level meetings aimed at reinforcing Pakistan’s role in regional security and military diplomacy.

In Cairo, the COAS met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi at the Itihadia Presidential Palace. The two leaders reaffirmed the long-standing friendship between Pakistan and Egypt, emphasizing enhanced coordination on strategic matters and deeper collaboration in socio-economic development, technology, and security. President el-Sisi praised Pakistan’s proactive contributions to regional peace, particularly within the Muslim world.

In Jordan, Field Marshal Munir was received by King Abdullah II and Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, where discussions focused on strengthening bilateral defence ties and addressing regional developments. The COAS also met with Major General Yousef Ahmed Al-Huneiti, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Jordan Armed Forces, who lauded Pakistan’s role in promoting peace and security across the region.

The visit concluded in Saudi Arabia, where Field Marshal Munir engaged with senior defence officials to discuss counterterrorism, intelligence sharing, and collective security. According to military sources, the leadership of all three Arab nations expressed full confidence in Pakistan’s Armed Forces and their commitment to regional stability.

Pakistan Army’s Strategic Outreach in Egypt, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia

Military observers described the Middle East tour as a “remarkable example of successful military diplomacy,” noting that Field Marshal Munir’s engagements underscored Pakistan’s growing influence in the Islamic world. The meetings highlighted a shared vision for collective security and deeper defence collaboration among brotherly nations.

The Field Marshal’s proactive diplomacy is seen as a key driver in elevating Pakistan’s global standing, particularly in the post-Mecca-e-Haram regional context. His efforts have positioned Pakistan as a bridge-builder and stabilizing force amid shifting geopolitical dynamics.

Pakistan Army’s Expanding Defence Footprint

These engagements reflect Pakistan’s broader strategy of engaging with both Western and regional powers to strengthen its defence posture and diplomatic relevance. Under Field Marshal Asim Munir’s leadership, the Pakistan Army has prioritized professionalism, strategic outreach, and regional solidarity.

From Europe to the Middle East, Pakistan’s military diplomacy continues to evolve, with each visit reinforcing its commitment to peace, stability, and mutual cooperation.
