ICCI Hosts Chinese Delegation to Deepen Pak-China Trade Ties

ISLAMABAD — In a key move to boost Pak-China trade ties, the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) hosted a high-level delegation from Sinotalent Empowering Industry Development, Beijing. President Wei Zhongchao led the delegation, which visited ICCI to explore investment opportunities and strengthen industrial cooperation.

The visiting team included Wu Guodong and Fan Yiqun of Sinotalent, Liu Gang of Beijing Lingdan Toxic Biological Engineering Research Institute, and Muhammad Arif Mughal of Sino-Pak Industrial Cooperation and Development. During an interactive session, Wei outlined the delegation’s plan to study Pakistan’s market and identify areas for mutual collaboration.

Key sectors discussed for potential cooperation included energy, chemicals, artificial intelligence, digital economy, high-end manufacturing, agriculture, food processing, and infrastructure. Wei also proposed establishing a Pak-China Industrial Cooperation Centre in Beijing. The centre would showcase Pakistani products and help expand export capacity.

ICCI President Sardar Tahir Mehmood welcomed the delegation and reaffirmed the strong friendship between Pakistan and China. He highlighted the transformative potential of CPEC Phase-II. This phase focuses on industrial cooperation, special economic zones, technology transfer, and digital development. He also assured ICCI’s full support for Chinese investors and emphasized Pakistan’s export strengths in IT, minerals, pharmaceuticals, real estate, and tourism.

Senior Vice President Tahir Ayub echoed these views. He stated that CPEC Phase-II could drive export-led growth through sustainable industrialization. Moreover, he expressed ICCI’s openness to joint ventures with Chinese firms. He reiterated the Chamber’s commitment to cross-border partnerships.

Both sides agreed to maintain close coordination and explore practical avenues for industrial, technological, and trade collaboration. They also committed to signing Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to formalize proposals. ICCI appointed former Senior Vice President Faad Waheed as the focal person to oversee implementation.

The meeting included ICCI Vice President Irfan Chaudhry and Executive Members Zulqurnain Abbasi, Malik Aqeel, Imran Minhas, Waseem Chaudhry, Mohsin Malik, Dr. Usman, and Shahid Mumtaz Bajwa. Bajwa previously served as Vice President of the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

This engagement marks a promising chapter in Pak-China trade relations. It reinforces shared goals of sustainable growth, industrial modernization, and regional economic integration.
