Kabul’s participation in ISC to boost regional dialogue

Islamabad:Kabul’s participation in the ISC will boost regional dialogue and stability, said Ambassador Misbah Khar, Special Envoy for the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC), during her meeting with Sardar Ahmad Shakib, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. The meeting took place at the Afghan Embassy in Islamabad to discuss collaboration ahead of the upcoming Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference.

Ambassador Misbah Khar briefed the Afghan envoy on the objectives and framework of the ISC, emphasizing its role in promoting dialogue, cooperation, and connectivity among parliaments. She highlighted that the conference seeks to advance peace, sustainable development, and regional stability through parliamentary diplomacy.

She reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining close and constructive ties with Afghanistan, stressing that Kabul’s participation in the ISC would strengthen regional dialogue and cooperation. The initiative, she said, represents a joint effort to address shared challenges and promote understanding among neighboring states in South and Central Asia.

In response, Ambassador Shakib appreciated the comprehensive briefing and praised Pakistan’s leadership for launching the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference as a timely and forward-looking initiative. He expressed Afghanistan’s readiness to engage constructively in parliamentary efforts that promote peace, connectivity, and regional prosperity.

Ambassador Khar further informed the Afghan envoy that Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has been unanimously elected as the founding President of the ISC, reflecting the international community’s confidence in Pakistan’s leadership in advancing parliamentary diplomacy. She extended a formal invitation to the Afghan Parliament to participate in the inaugural ISC session, scheduled for 11–12 November 2025 in Islamabad, under the theme “Peace, Development, Stability and Security.”

The meeting concluded with mutual expressions of goodwill and a shared resolve to enhance bilateral and regional cooperation through sustained parliamentary engagement and dialogue. Mr Tariq bin Waheed, Senior Director General (Protocol), Senate of Pakistan, also attended the meeting.
