Abu Dhabi — The United Arab Emirates has announced a major UAE visit visa update, introducing four new categories aimed at attracting global talent and specialized visitors. The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) revealed the changes as part of broader reforms to entry and residency regulations.
Officials said the new framework reflects the UAE’s commitment to openness and its ambition to become a magnet for innovators, entrepreneurs, and high-value tourists. Clear guidelines will define the duration, renewal terms, and extension rules for each visa type.
New Visit Visa Categories
Artificial Intelligence Specialists Available as single or multiple-entry permits. Applicants must submit a letter from a recognized tech entity.
Entertainment Industry Professionals Granted to individuals visiting for temporary entertainment-related engagements.
Event Participants Issued for short stays linked to conferences, exhibitions, festivals, seminars, and other events. A host entity must provide event details.
Cruise and Yacht Tourists Allows multiple entries for visitors arriving via cruise liners or leisure boats. A licensed facility must sponsor the visit, and itineraries must include UAE ports.
Humanitarian Residency Permit
The UAE has also introduced a one-year humanitarian residency, extendable upon approval. It applies to individuals from conflict or disaster-affected regions. No guarantor or host is required. However, the permit will be cancelled if the holder exits the UAE.
Residents sponsoring relatives under humanitarian grounds may receive exemptions from financial and kinship requirements in specific cases.
Residency for Widows and Divorcees
A one-year renewable residency is now available for widows and divorcees.
- If the husband was Emirati: Foreign applicants without children must apply within six months.
- If the husband was a foreign resident: Applicants must have custody of children and meet financial and housing criteria.
Custody disputes will be resolved by the designated committee.
Sponsorship Rules for Relatives and Friends
Expatriates must meet new income thresholds to sponsor others:
- Immediate family: Dh4,000/month
- Second- or third-degree relatives: Dh8,000/month
- Friends: Dh15,000/month
Business Exploration Visa
Applicants must show financial solvency or proof of professional engagement. This includes owning a business abroad or having relevant experience.
Truck Drivers’ Entry Permit
Truck drivers can now apply for single or multiple-entry permits. These require sponsorship by a licensed logistics company, a financial guarantee, valid health insurance, and fee payment.
