Islamabad — A new report by the Institute of Regional Studies (IRS) warns that India’s flawed policies are driving its regional and global isolation. Titled Building Peace in South Asia: Post-Pahalgam Scenario, the report emerged from a joint dialogue between IRS and the Beaconhouse Centre for Policy Research (BCPR), held after the May 2025 Pakistan-India crisis.

IRS President Ambassador Jauhar Saleem explained that the recent military escalation revealed a shift in India’s strategic posture. He pointed to Operation Sindoor as a deliberate attempt by India to raise deterrence costs for Pakistan. In contrast, Pakistan chose restraint, prioritized regional stability, and reaffirmed its commitment to principled peace.

Meanwhile, Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed criticized India’s flawed policies, noting their role in isolating India across South Asia. He highlighted a shift in U.S. policy, explaining that Washington no longer offers India strategic cover in confrontations with China. As a result, Indian policymakers now face a recalibrated strategic landscape.

Ambassador Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry, Chairman of the Sanober Institute, praised the report’s practical recommendations. He warned that cross-border terrorism continues to pose a serious threat. Moreover, he expressed concern about renewed Indian aggression, potentially driven by domestic pressures and prestige politics. He urged regional actors to remain vigilant and proactive.

Additionally, Ambassador Mansoor Ahmed Khan, Director of BCPR, urged Pakistan to leverage its strategic location. He advocated deeper engagement with South Asian nations such as Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, Nepal, and Bhutan. These countries, he noted, have often been courted by India to isolate Pakistan. Strengthening ties with them could reshape regional dynamics in Pakistan’s favor.

Overall, the report positions India’s flawed policies as a major obstacle to peace and cooperation. It calls for strategic recalibration, inclusive diplomacy, and sustained dialogue. The launch event attracted diplomats, scholars, media professionals, and students—underscoring the report’s broad relevance.
