Islamabad — In a strategic push to strengthen global humanitarian action, the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) and the Norwegian Red Cross reaffirmed their commitment to vulnerable communities. Chairperson Mrs Farzhana Naek met with Norwegian Red Cross President Ms Siri Hatlen in Oslo to deepen cooperation and expand support for climate-affected populations in Pakistan.

During the meeting, Mrs Naek emphasized that her visit was part of a broader campaign to advocate for communities devastated by climate-induced disasters. She called for increased international aid, especially in health, to ensure long-term recovery for flood-hit regions. “Pakistan should be at the top of the list for climate aid,” she stated. “International Humanitarian Law and Climate Justice remain my top priorities.”

Meanwhile, Ms Hatlen praised PRCS’s transformation under Mrs Naek’s leadership. She highlighted over 20 years of collaboration in health, clean water, sanitation, disaster response, and financial development. “We value our partnership and are proud of what we’ve achieved together,” she said.

In addition to the bilateral meeting, Mrs Naek held strategic discussions with Mr Simen Saxebøl, Acting Secretary General of the Norwegian Red Cross, and Mr Erik Abild, Director of Humanitarian Affairs at NORAD. These talks focused on climate-adapted health systems, disaster response, and humanitarian needs of Afghan returnees. As a result, both sides agreed to explore new funding avenues and policy engagement strategies. Furthermore, they discussed ways to align humanitarian efforts with international climate frameworks.

This visit marks a renewed commitment to global humanitarian action. Both organizations aim to build resilient communities and alleviate suffering through strategic partnerships and climate-focused aid. By reinforcing their shared mission, PRCS and the Norwegian Red Cross continue to lead with compassion and purpose.

Historically, PRCS has played a vital role in delivering life-saving services across Pakistan. Since its founding, the organization has responded to major emergencies including the 2005 earthquake, the 2010 super floods, and the COVID-19 pandemic. In each crisis, PRCS mobilized volunteers, deployed medical teams, and coordinated relief efforts nationwide. Over the years, it has expanded its reach through youth engagement, disaster preparedness, and community health programs. Today, PRCS stands as a trusted humanitarian force, committed to protecting lives and restoring hope.
