China-Pakistan Ties Strengthen Through Culture, Innovation, and Economic Cooperation

ISLAMABAD – China has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing China-Pakistan strategic cooperation following President Asif Ali Zardari’s recent visit. The trip marked a pivotal moment in bilateral relations. From September 12–21, President Zardari engaged across Sichuan, Shanghai, and Xinjiang, laying the groundwork for the joint Action Plan 2025–29.

In an official article published after the visit, Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong described the trip as a “new chapter” in the enduring friendship between the two nations. Notably, he emphasized that the visit strengthened practical cooperation and deepened people-to-people ties, thereby reinforcing China-Pakistan strategic cooperation at multiple levels.

During the opening ceremony of the 2025 Golden Panda International Cultural Forum in Chengdu, President Zardari praised the forum’s role in bridging global communities through art. His remarks aligned with the Global Civilization Initiative, which promotes cultural dialogue, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence among diverse societies.

Throughout his journey, President Zardari met local leaders, interacted with citizens, and visited four key destinations. As a result, Ambassador Jiang highlighted these engagements as vital to enhancing bilateral understanding and fostering long-term collaboration.

Moreover, the ambassador spotlighted cultural exchanges that have gained momentum. For instance, the film BaTie Girl screened in both countries. The Gandhara Art Exhibition debuted at China’s Palace Museum. Pakistani mangoes became a viral sensation among Chinese netizens. Additionally, Urdu programs are flourishing in Chinese universities, while Pakistani youth are increasingly drawn to study opportunities in China.

President Zardari’s visit to Chengdu included a ride on the Fuxing high-speed train. He lauded it as a marvel of engineering. Consequently, he expressed enthusiasm for accelerating the China-Pakistan Corridor of Innovation, a key pillar of China-Pakistan strategic cooperation.

Ambassador Jiang also noted recent scientific collaborations. These include high-yield rapeseed cultivation in Pakistan, the Orange Line’s impact in Lahore, and the launch of remote-sensing satellites. Furthermore, agreements on astronaut training and nuclear energy projects demonstrate the growing depth of technological partnership.

In Shanghai, President Zardari witnessed the signing of cooperation documents at Shanghai Electric Group. The Thar Engro Coal Power Project, operated by the group, has boosted Pakistan’s energy security. It has also created jobs, especially for women. In addition, financial ties have strengthened, with Chinese institutions investing in the Pakistan Stock Exchange.

Looking ahead, the ambassador underscored China’s readiness to implement leadership-level agreements. He emphasized cooperation in industry, agriculture, and mining. He also called for expanded cultural and local exchanges to inject fresh momentum into China-Pakistan strategic cooperation.

President Zardari’s visit to Xinjiang coincided with the region’s 70th anniversary. While touring Urumqi’s Urban Operations and Management Center, he praised the region’s development. He further encouraged more Pakistanis to explore Xinjiang and witness its transformation firsthand.

In conclusion, Ambassador Jiang reaffirmed the iron-clad friendship between China and Pakistan. He described President Zardari’s journey—from Chengdu’s panda sanctuaries to Shanghai’s economic hubs—as a testament to the enduring bond and shared future of both nations.
