Islamabad: Federal Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain has been given additional charge for the Ministry of National Food Security and Research.
Federal Minister Rana Tanwar Hussain said on Thursday during his first visit to the ministry that Pakistan is an agricultural country and agriculture is the backbone of the economy. He said the government is committed to the development and productivity of agriculture.
The minister said that all resources will be used for the development of agriculture in the country. “Pakistan’s growth and prosperity depend on the development of agriculture,” he said, adding that he would take practical steps to promote agriculture in Pakistan.
The minister said that an integrated strategy for agricultural development will be developed. “I am aware of the challenges and opportunities facing our agricultural sector and intend to work towards sustainable growth and development.”
The Minister said that Pakistan has a rich agricultural heritage of various crops and products which not only feed our nation but also have the potential to contribute significantly to our economy. “Agriculture is the backbone of our economy, feeding millions of people and playing an important role in ensuring food security for us.”
The minister said that agriculture in Pakistan is facing many challenges that threaten its development and sustainability. “Climate change, water scarcity, lack of access to modern technology and markets are some of the challenges we will face in the coming days to realize the full potential of our agriculture.”
Earlier, National Food Captain (r) Muhammad Asif and senior officials received the minister on his arrival at the ministry. As a result, the ministry was given detailed information about the agency’s work.
