Russian Embassy Officials Call on Advisor to Chairman Senate and Senior Director General

Ms. Natalia Shmeleva, Deputy Head of Mission at the Russian Embassy, and Mr. Igor Kolesnikov, Press Attaché, called on Ms. Misbah Khar, Advisor to the Hon’ble Chairman Senate, and Mr. Tariq Bin Waleed, Senior Director General, at the Parliament House.

At the outset, Ms. Misbah Khar and Mr. Tariq Bin Waleed informed the visiting Russian diplomats about the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers Conference (ISC)—a significant new global platform aimed at fostering parliamentary cooperation among nations. They shared that the ISC currently comprises 45 member Speakers from various national parliaments. It was further noted that in a recent election held in Malaysia, the Hon’ble Chairman Senate of Pakistan, Mr. Yousuf Raza Gillani, was unanimously elected as the first President of this newly formed organization.

The Advisor and the Senior Director General also briefed the Russian officials on the upcoming ISC session, which is scheduled to take place on November 11–12, 2025, in Islamabad. On this occasion, Ms. Misbah Khar extended a formal invitation to Her Excellency Valentina Ivanovna Matvienko, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, to attend the conference.

In addition, Ms. Khar and Mr. Waleed shared detailed insights into the conference’s objectives, agenda, and preparatory framework. They explained that the ISC aims to facilitate meaningful dialogue among parliamentary leaders on key global issues, including peace, multilateral cooperation, and sustainable development. The Russian delegation was also briefed on the thematic focus, planned sessions, and the expected participation of parliamentary delegations from various regions.Misbah khar said Chairman Senate as the founding chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers Conference, he places high importance on parliamentary diplomacy and considers inter-parliamentary engagement essential for addressing common challenges

The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to strengthening parliamentary ties and enhancing people-to-people and legislature-to-legislature cooperation between Pakistan and the Russian Federation.
